About Us
Well, it all started with two chickens (and that will be the title of my book someday). I started learning about our food system in college. Luke and I lived together at his family camp with 6 acres at the time. I had been eating organic for years but just started learning about factory farming. We had planted a garden for a few years in a row. One day while grocery shopping, I stood by the egg section pondering the price and how do I know if the chickens are really treated well. I went home and discussed with Luke my concerns and we decided to get two chickens. Two turned into twenty.
We then moved to Stone Lakes Farm. We kept learning about our food systems and decided to take a stand. We now have our personal garden, a high tunnel (which we sell the produce from), a strawberry patch, raspberry/ blackberry groves, blueberry patch, herb garden, corn field, nut orchard, fruit orchard, honey bees, Nubian goats, and pigs. We also have our dogs and cats...like any good farm has.
We try to provide our family with ethically and environmentally friendly food. We also have some to sell to others who can not live this lifestyle but want to consume from it. We are currently trying to figure out how to make a living off of our passion. I am selling food products and livestock and my husband offers his sawmill services.
In 2012, we added a little farm hand to the family, our daughter Meadow. Thankfully she enjoys this life as much as we do! In 2015, we have welcomed our second daughter, Delaney. Stay tuned as our farm and family grow...
